Catalog Course Description:
Critical examination of human growth and development from conception to early childhood with particular attention to current theoretical and research perspectives.
Course Requirements:
Attendance and class participation is a requirement. Students who are absent for more than 2 class sessions, without calling the instructor may be dropped from the class. Arriving late is disruptive to the instructor and the students in the class. If you are late 10 minutes, more than three times it will be considered an absence. Last day to drop with a "W" is Friday Nov. 14th. It is the student's responsibility to drop the class before this date otherwise a grade will be assigned according to the points earned. Participation includes arriving on time, actively participating with the group, and remaining for the entire class.
A number of videos will be shown during this course to illustrate research in progress and new concepts discussed in class. Treat videos as you would lectures, by taking notes. Videos serve as a good basis for many exam questions.
5 exams will be given throughout the quarter. 4 exams will be counted as part of your grade. If you are ill or cannot take the exam on the given date, it is your responsibility to inform the instructor prior to the exam. No make up exams will be given. If you miss one exam then you will be required to take the final at the end of the quarter. The other option is that you may take the final and have your lowest exam score dropped.
Evaluation: Grades based on percentage of points earned. I teach many students per year, each of who have multiple grades. It is inevitable that an occasional grade will be misplaced or misreported. Therefore, it is imperative that you keep all the work returned to you in your folder and a continual record of your scores until the end of the quarter.
Grading:
The percentage system for determining grades on all papers. A = 93% 279 -300 A- = 90% 270 B+ = 87% 261 B = 83% 249 B- = 80% 240 C+ =77% 231 C = 70% 210 D+ = 67% 201 D = 63% 189 D- = 60% 180 F = 0.0 below 180
