Chapters 6-8  Focus your attention on the following topics and concerns.

Understanding nutritional guidlines, The New My Pyramid  (2005) and all six categories.  Be able to list and describe and give examples of them.  Dietary guidelines.

How to read a food label -Saturated fat, the formula for it, cardiovascular disease, blocked arteries, obesity, overweight. What are Micronutrients,( Vitamins -Vitamin A, D,E,K,Folic Acid,C,Minerals -Calcium, Iron, Sodium,Water). Macronutrients, CHO,(starches and Sugars) Protein, and Fats. 

TV and its effect on children's diet and exercise, fast food industry, gimmicks etc. -Food allergies (peanuts, lactose intolerance etc.), Epi pen. Dental caries, Bottle mouth syndrome, Breastfeeding and bottle with formula, regulations and guidelines. Use of the microwave, introducing solid foods, cereals, fruits, and vegetables. Toddler and Preschool nutrition, SIDS

Menu planning: breakfast, lunch, and snacks,
5 a Day -the different foods in each color, benefits of each food

Food handling - safety precautions, e-coli, mercury poisoning
