ATTENDANCE & EVALUATION
To find out how you learn and what you can do to improve your grade, complete the learning style survey found on these web pages. Email me your style as described for 1 point.
I would like you to do well in this course. Learning can be done by listening or by watching or by doing. I think that the best way is for you to actively participate. Each day you will be filling out worksheets on various topics of nutrition.
Assignments: Completion of specific worksheets will account for 44 points. Be sure to prepare for class by reading the assigned pages and completing the worksheet. In class, I will explain and review the concepts for that day. To make sure that you receive full credit on the graded worksheets, ask questions and review your work before you submit it. Late worksheets will lose credit.
Exams: Your exam grades will count for 175 pts. Each exam is mainly multiple choice with one short answer. I do not give make-up exams. If you can't make one of the midterms, your other midterm will count twice its usual value. The final is comprehensive and is worth one and half times the value of a midterm.
Before each exam you will receive a set of questions that I will be asking on the exams. If you read the assigned material and if you complete the worksheets and study the review questions, you should do well on the exams.
There are 220 possible points for the course. These points are broken down as follows: 45 points for all of the assignments plus learning style survey, 50 points for each midterm and 75 points for the final. Grading is dependent on percentages: A = 198 pts (90%), B = 176 pts, (80%), C = 154 pts (70%), D = 132 pts. If you receive less than 132 pts, your grade is an F.
I will be posting your grades on this web site. You must complete the learning style survey to get your student number so that you check your grade.
Attendance and your decision to drop the class is your responsibility. Students who don't drop at the appropriate time will receive an F in the class.
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
I expect that you will come to class on time. If you do show up late, please be as quiet as possible not to disrupt the class. If you are chronically tardy, you will asked to leave the class.
I expect that your behavior in class is that of an adult. If you chronically talk or disrupt other students during lecture, you will be asked to leave the class.
I expect you to do your own work. However, sometimes to complete the worksheets you may need some help. At that time, it will be helpful for you to work with other students.
On the other hand, I expect you to do your own work on the exams. Cheating will not be tolerated and will result in an F in this class.
