History of Graphic Design
A history of word and image from the invention of writing and the origins of typography primarily in Europe and the United States from antiquity through the Industrial Revolution, the Modernist Era and the Information Age. Emphasis is placed on the impact of industrial technology in the first half of the twentieth century.
Topics will include Asian contributions to graphic design, the origins of printing, typography in the industrial age and postmodern design.
