Currently, I am the President of De Anza's Academic Senate and the Basic Skills Initiative (BSI) Faculty Coordinator and co-chair of DARE Task Force.

In Winter 2012, I will be co-teaching an IMPACT AAPI LART 211 (Reading instructor: Veronica Avila). My office hours are Tuesdays & Thursdays 10:30-11:30, and by appointment.

I teach English, Women's Studies, and Asian American Studies at De Anza College.

I am an avid supporter of ¡LEAD!, IMPACT AAPI, Sankofa, First Year Experience, Puente, and other student support programs at De Anza. I occasionally teach EWRT classes that support IMPACT AAPI, ¡LEAD! and Sankofa.

A little about my educational background: I completed my Ph.D. and M.A. in English at U.C. Santa Barbara (my dissertation was about Asian American literature and the construction of community identities), and I also have a B.S. degree from the University of Southern California. Prior to coming to De Anza, I was an assistant professor of English and Asian American Studies at the University of Connecticut, Storrs.

My current teaching/community interests: literature, prose writing, and films about contemporary culture, especially around issues of race, ethnicity, class, and gender; food (eating, cooking, and writings about food culture and politics); encouraging students to learn more about and become more engaged in the world around them from De Anza to beyond...
