ELIT 12

In ELIT 12, you will read major plays from a time period that spans about 450 BC to the present.  Culturally, we are also covering a wide breadth of works.  We will study Greek drama and plays from modern Europe, America, Africa, Ireland, and England.  Of course, reading a play and seeing and hearing a performance of a play are two very different experiences. Each can be significant to appreciation and understanding, and ideally, one would be able to experience a play both by reading it and by seeing a production of it.  One of your assignments will be to attend a production of a play and do a write-up of it, so that you will experience a live dramatic performance at least once during the quarter.
