Math 10 Linear Regression

RESOURCES ON THIS PAGE ARE NOT YET UPDATED FOR 2009

CHAPTER 12 NOTES: Linear Regression and Correlation
The notes for summer 2008 are posted at the link below. They may be updated for 2009.
http://nebula.deanza.edu/~bloom/Math10/M10LinRegNotesSmr2008.pdf
Notes are intended to SUPPLEMENT textbook ; NOT to replace it.
You should read both!
Includes calculator instructions for using & interpreting linear regression T- test
and creating scatterplot, drawing regression line, and graphically identifying outliers.

Linear Regression: Least Squares Criteria for Best Fit:
Explanation of best fit

http://mtsu32.mtsu.edu:11308/regression/level2/simplinreg/concept.htm
Interactive Exploration (graphical)
Play with the line to understand best fit!

Move the line and see the sum of the squared residuals change.
Move the line to make the sum of squared residuals as small as you can get it.
When the sum of squared residuals is minimized, that is the best fit line.

OPTIONAL: Linear Regression Excel Instructions

Looks better printed out than as posted online.
