Calculus 1A: Fundmentals of Differential Calculus

The main website for this course will be on CATALYST,
De Anza College's course management system
https://catalyst.deanza.edu
If you are enrolled for this class in 2012,
you should go to https://catalyst.deanza.edu once the quarter begins
to access the current instructions, assignments and materials for this course.

TEXTBOOK INFORMATION FOR 2012-13
The textbook is Calculus Early Transcendentals 7th Edition by James Stewart.
It is available in the De Anza College bookstore and is used for the entire calculus sequence.
The edition sold at the bookstore includes a Webassign code and is competitively priced.
I have not yet decided if we will be using Webassign in this course.
I will update this site accordingly as the fall quarter draws near, once I have made that decision.
Please note that the Webassign code included with your textbook should work for the entire course sequence
and that Webassign codes are expensive to purchase separately,
so you should strongly consider buying a book from the bookstore with the code included,
as your instructor for Math 1B, 1C, or 1D might also require Webassign.

I expect that you will have a graphing calculator for this course.
The TI-83, TI-83+, or TI-84 graphing calculators are recommended.

If you already own a TI-89:
You are NOT permitted to use the TI-89 or any calculator with a computer algebra system (symbolic algebra) for quizzes or exams in this class.

If you own a TI-89 or other calculator with such capabilities, you will need to borrow an acceptable calculator for quizzes and exams.
The library lends calculators, but you must have your DASB card with you.
