LRNA/EWRT 97: Intro to Peer Tutoring in Writing

This course trains De Anza students to be peer writing tutors. In this course, new tutors learn to help student writers throughout the writing process and work with students at various levels of writing proficiency and from diverse backgrounds. They read about, observe, discuss, write about and practice the craft of tutoring writing. After an initial orientation, including reading and classroom exercises, students in the class begin tutoring and use class time to reflect upon those tutoring experiences.

For current class information, download the Spring 2008 EWRT/LRNA 97 Info Sheet which includes the class green sheet, weekly calendar and assignments--9 pages, MS Word.

As part of the class, you need to interview and be selected as a tutor, then tutor 4-10 hours per week. You are paid as a student assistant for the hours you work as a tutor.

To apply to become a tutor and take the class, please go to http://faculty.deanza.edu/alvesdelimadiana/stories/storyReader$482 . Read the information, complete the New Tutor Application and bring it to Sandy Blackborow, the tutor supervisor, in L-47, or e-mail it to blackborowsandra@fhda.edu . Please e-mail or call Sandy at 408-864-8852 to arrange an interview.

For students wanting to begin tutoring, please stop by L-47 as soon as possible (during the last two weeks of quarter prior to the one you'd like to tutor, or first week at the latest) to submit an application and arrange an interview.

For Spring 2008, the class meets on Thursdays, 3:45-5:30 in L74..
