Thesis Statements

Good thesis statements are the key to a strong essay, but most students have trouble with them.

Here is a sample response when you see a weak or missing thesis:

After the description, you have a paragraph that has some great strong opinions, but cries out for a real thesis statement. As it is, I'm not sure if you are arguing that _____ or that ____ (insert student's ideas, if possible). If you improve that paragraph and make your thesis clearer, the reader will really be convinced.

Then try to revise the paragraph and include a strong thesis.
