What is your name? Does it have a meaning? How did you get your name?
What is your ethnic and/or national background(s)?
What is one thing many people may not know about people from your ethnic/and/or cultural background?
At mid point of video (with a partner):
How have stereotypes affected how others see you? How have they affected you as a student?
How have stereotypes affected how you see others from your own or other groups?
How might stereotypes affect you as a tutor?
After video (in small groups)
Everyone in the group should read these guidelines before the group discussion:
Remember the "ground rules" of respect, confidentiality, and assuming positive intentions.
At the start of discussion, go around and introduce yourselves. If you feel comfortable doing so, you may also tell the group about your ethnic and/or national background(s).
Those who want to can share some of the discussions they had with their partners during the video.
Please choose someone in the group to take notes and someone to share the results of your discussion (especially question #5, below) with the whole group.
Then discuss the questions below:
1. What part of the video was most powerful for you? Why?
2. Which students in the video did you relate to most? Why?
