Videotaping InstructionsAs part of tutor training, all new tutors are assigned to videotape themselves tutoring. See your greensheet for exact due dates, which vary from class to class.
You need to plan ahead to videotape a sessions, watch a part of the tape with your senior tutor, and write and submit your response.
Here are some instructions and advice to make the process go smoothly.
1) Speak to one of the students or groups you tutor. Tell them about the assignment and ask if it would be OK to record a session. Make sure they understand that only you and your senior tutor will watch the tape, and that it is a requirement for your class.
2) Schedule yourself to record NOW. First choice is the Listening Speaking Lab in ATC 304, or choose L-47, S-43, or your group location.
3) Contact your senior tutor NOW to schedule a 30 minute meeting to view a part of your recording. You will watch the segment together, take notes, then write your assignment on your own. Please plan ahead, as senior tutors are busy too!
To record a tutoring session:
First choice is to use the Listening and Speaking Lab in ATC 304. It is quieter and they have staff to help you.
Please stop by ATC 304 or call 864-5385 to reserve a room for the time and day you want to record with your student. You need to bring either a full-size tape or recordable DVD-R to record your session. See http://www.deanza.edu/langarts/lsl/orientat.html
for instructions, or ask the assistant at the lab to help you.
ATC 304 Lab Schedule
Monday 9:30 am - 5:30 pm
Tuesday 9:30 am - 7:30 pm
Wednesday 9:30 am - 7:30 pm
Thursday 9:30 am - 5:30 pm
Friday 9:30 am - 2:30 pm
Second choice is to record in L-47 or S-43.
Sign up sheets are at the front desks. Use either
-the old videotape camcorder (in Diana's office in L-47, ask Laura in S-43. Bring your own full size tape.)
OR
-the small Panasonic DVDcam (ask Laura, Patrick or Diana to get it for you--ID required).
For the digital camera, please read the Panasonic DVDcam Quick Start instructions (in your yellow folders and attached) and purchase a mini DVD in L-47 before recording. Also attached is a picture, and a more detailed set of instructions in case the Quick Start is not enough. When using the DVDcam remember that you must "finalize" your disc before you leave, so you can watch it in any DVD player.
